How to Install a simple exterior door lock

This is for preexisting lock installment. Door locks are easy to install when all you are doing is removing an old knob and installing a new on.

The tools that are needed are minimal

A door knob of course

1.Philips Screwdriver

1.Remove old knob usually just 2 phillip screws on inside of door. (they are x shaped screws)

2.Remove old latch (it is held in by 2 phillip screws in the door) then pulls out.

3.Trial fit the latch do not screw in till after step 4. Being careful to put it in the right direction. It has a slope so that it pushes in when the door is closed. If you install it backward you have to take lock off again to reverse. See figure C

4. The catch's are adjustable for different types of offsets (The measurement from the center of the knob hole to the outside of the door) You must adjust the catch so that the big hole in catch, where knob goes thru is centered. See photo D is not centered Photo E is centered

5.Install 2 philip Head Screws See photo F

6. Depress latch with a finger and push knob thru the latch. (This is usually the side for the key) Making sure that you have installed it in the correct direction. Keyed side goes out! See Photo G and H

7. Install inside of door knob. This is always the side with the screws. See Photo I Start the screws in both holes before securing the screws tight.See Photo J

8.. Remove old catch Photo K

9,Install New catch and make sure that it is in the right direction. See photo L and secure with 2 screws.

10. Installation is now complete See Photo M
